So you made your church a Facebook fanpage. Now what? I have had friends ask e many questions on how to use Facebook for church. I have also noticed many churches spamming everyone with unwanted content on Facebook. I decided to do a tops 10 of best practices for a church Facebook Fanpage or group and here it is:

1.       Have your team and attenders invite all their friends to the fan page.
2.       Begin adding valuable content but be balanced in posting(see posting balance).
3.       Pictures and Video are the kings and queens of content. People click on pics and video.
4.       Spread your posting out throughout the day, with a max of 5 per day.
5.       Use event invites for anything that has a date and needs communicating.
6.       Use the notes for any larger posting info that is larger than a wall post.
      a.       Instructions
      b.      Directions
      c.       Mini Blog postings by the team
7.       Posting Balance – Make sure you are balanced in your approach to posting.
     a.       25% Events -Pre and post event postings. Recap everything with pics and video.
     b.      25% Scripture of the day, thought of the day etc.
     c.       25% Blog content from pastor and other valuable pastor bloggers.
     d.      25% entertaining, inspirational or funny videos and links.
8.       Invite volunteer teams to get the conversation started on the Fanpage
    a.       After the church posts content have the volunteers like and comment.
    b.      Ask questions about posts.
    c.       Post though provoking ideas but not controversial.
    d.      Get the conversation started and have fun.
9.       A few Don’ts
    a.       Don’t post political content
    b.      Don’t get spammy with the invites or anything else. Post your invite and allow the team to share but don’t post over and over again.
    c.       Don’t over post to the wall. Most users have 200 friends or less. If you post more than 5 times a day you will fill their news wall.
10.   Have fun and building and sustaining long term relationships.
